Lena Ruth Keever Sipe, age 81, of Newton, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at her residence. Born February 21, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Charles Burgin Keever and Mary Jane Keever Keever. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Newton. Known as a very hard worker, Lena retired from Newton Glove Company and went on to work at Abernethy Laurels and was a beloved "lunch lady" at Bandys High School. Lena Ruth Keever Sipe, age 81, of Newton, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at her residence. Born February 21, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Charles Burgin Keever and Mary Jane Keever Keever. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Newton. Known as a very hard worker, Lena retired from Newton Glove Company and went on to work at Abernethy Laurels and was a beloved "lunch lady" at Bandys High School. Her hard-work ethic and zest for life was an inspiration to her family. Lena always took care of the needs of others before herself. Her adventurous spirit led her to try new experiences well into her "golden years." She enjoyed mastering quilting, gardening, cooking and riding motorcycles. No matter what obstacles life threw in her path, Lena's resilience enabled her to persevere.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Winfred Sipe, a son, Dwight Sipe and a brother, Ray Keever.

Lena is survived by her husband, Gerald David Sipe; daughter, Teresa Sipe of Newton; son, Charlie Sipe and wife, Tracey, of Maiden; step-son, Jimmy Sipe and wife, Dianne, of Clearwater, FL; brothers, Troy Keever and wife, Barbara, of Conover, Ned Keever of Maiden; sisters, Lucille Sipe and husband, Boone, of Maiden, Lorene Heavner of Newton, Nell Leatherman and husband, Donald, of Newton; grandchildren, Nick Sipe and wife, Brooke, of Gastonia, Randi Sims and husband, Mike, of Burlington; great-grandchildren, Nixon Sipe, Blythe Sipe and Kristin Sims.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church with Rev. Doug Hefner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Her family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
